THE PRINCIPLES OF AUTHORITY 

•  The nature of government is a part of God’s purpose for the world

THE PROBLEMS OF AUTHORITY

•  We are citizens of two worlds

“We are citizens of heavens”
-Philippians 3:20

1)  Our primary allegiance is to God
-Matthew 6:33
-Acts 4: 1-20

The principle of priority:

“We must obey God rather than any human authority”
-Acts 5:29

2)  We should obey government authorities whenever possible

“Remind the believers to submit to the government and it’s officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good.”
-Titus 3:1

PRACTICAL PRINCIPLES TO REMEMBER

•  Civil government is temporary
-I Corinthians 15:24

•  We are to pray for government officials
-I Timothy 2:1-3

•  We are to influence our government for good
-Matthew 5:13

•  Don’t confuse any government with the Kingdom of God

(Jesus) “My kingdom is not an earthly kingdom . . . My kingdom is not of this world”
-John 18:36

•  We are to obey God always and government usually
